The city under Tampa or Corona, as it was called Brasov in its beginnings of a "free royal city," we believe,is today the most beautiful Romanian mountain city.
Fascinating due to its history, being documented in 1234 when the burg was centered around the main square and the parish church, the Church of the Holy Mary, known as the Black Church, the city was often devastated by Turks, Tatars Army, but yet it becomes an important cultural center thanks to the great humanist and reformer Johannes Honterus (1498-1549) who laid the foundations of the school and library "Studium Coronense" in 1541 as later in 1583 the first courses in the Romanian language to lay the foundation stone of the First Romanian School.
The city's well-being is mainly seen in the architecture of the houses, built in the beginning in the Renaissance style, and later the baroque, rococo and classic styles that today give that romantic and magic atmosphere to the old city. Substantial contribution to the development of the city is due to the guilds of craftsmen and merchants, Brasov being an important commercial point.
Over the centuries Brasov is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Romania and the Black Church is declared to be the most visited tourist destination in our country.
But the Black Church is not the only attraction of the city, you can also visit: The Assumption Church, the first Orthodox church in Brasov, Sforii Street, Gate Schei, Ecaterina Gate, First Romanian School, History Museum, all located in the old center.
If you are a art lover, gourmand, you love winter and summer sports, you are attracted by mountain hiking or mountain bike trails, looking for nighttime entertainment, or just like to have a beer enjoying a cosmopolitan atmosphere? Brasov is what you are looking for!
